Quick Start
Create a new account at ispeakx.com. The required information is simple: a cool user name and hard to guess password, and a valid email address which will be used for confirmation purpose. We need to make sure you are a real human. There are also two optional fields: native language and target langauge, which we strongly recommend you to fill out as it will help you and others learn from each other. Once you login, you can go to your "My account" page to fill out other optional fields to let our community know you better. If you are interested in monetizing your blog (why not get paid for writing!), be sure to check our Revenue sharing program.
Text-to-Speech
This is still a very experimental feature and many changes will happen in the near future. Currently we use eSpeak engine.
Audio and Podcast
We allow audio (such as mp3) upload for Qanswers and blogs. Therefore you can do podcast if you like in your blog. You can use LAME to do mp3 encoding.
There are also free audio software that make it a bit easier for audio recording and encoding, such as Audacity
Social networking features
Feel free to create or join a group. There's no limitation on how many groups you can create or subscribe. Once registered, you can send and receive private messages through our site. We also offer a buddylist feature that allows you to access your friend's posts easily.
Blogging tips
Your blog's URL is http://ispeakx.com/blogs/your_username. We provide alternative page title option and meta tags for better search engine results. In order to bring more visitors to your blog, you should try to write high
quality blogs, which should be genuine and informative. In general, you'll feel more confident in writing something you know best. If possible, you may want to write blog daily. A more frequently updated blog would likely attract more visitors. As far as blogging topic goes, you can pretty much write anything you want. However, since we use Google AdSense, certain content specified by Google is NOT allowed on this website. For blog editor, you can use our built-in editor or you can use certain offline desktop blog editors. This site is powered by Drupal, so make sure the editor supports Drupal. We recommend Scribefire, which is a Firefox add-on. Naturally, we also recommend Firefox.
Revenue sharing program
We use Google AdSense to insert (presumably relevant) ads on your blog page. Each time a visitor clicks on the ads, Google will pay you certain amount of money as shown in your AdSense account.
Once you logged in, click "my account" and enter your AdSense Publisher ID in the form of pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. If you don't have an Adsense ID, you may use this referral link to get one (it's free)
It's very important to read Google adsense's Terms of Service. You cannot click your own ads or ask other people to click them for you.
Currently on your blog page we will display ads using your AdSense ID 90% of time, while the rest will be us or go to the person who referred you. So feel free to invite your frields using the referral link on your "my account" page as you'll be rewarded by referring friends to signup. The benefit of using our revenue sharing program instead of building your own website is we take care of all the hard work for bringing traffic to your blog.
Qanswers vs. Forums
You can post questions in either Qanswers or forums. The Qanswers format will normally give you more focused answers/discussions whereas a forum can be very liberal. Off-topic discussion is not at all uncommon. With forum, you are not limited to posting questions/answers.
If your question isn't answered here, feel free to post it in the forum or ask us!
